About Our Carob Powder

  • Carob pods, harvested from a wild tree native to the Mediterranean, are dark roasted to bring out their dark chocolate flavor with slight sweetness. Dark carob powder makes a great replacement for some or all of cocoa powder in recipes. Since it isn’t bitter like cocoa, you can use less sweetener in beverages or recipes. 

    The dark brown pods contain 24 antioxidants, calcium and are fat free. Pinitol, a unique compound in carob pods, promotes cellular metabolism and boosts energy. Carob’s carbohydrates are bound in complex fiber for a low glycemic index that supports good digestion and regularity.  

    Compared to chocolate, carob is stimulant free, has no added sugar or fat and thus is much lower in calories.  A member of the legume family, the carob seeds in the pods are removed to produce locust bean gum, commonly found in ice cream. 

Supporting sustainable harvests

Harvesting the pods in Italy, Spain, Morocco, Majorca, Greece and Turkey is a time-honored tradition. Families collect the carob pods when they fall from the trees in autumn. Canvas is spread on the ground underneath the tree’s branches and then it is taken up after the pods have filled it - no tractors necessary!

I made the best candy with this. I used the little dinosaur for kids molds and it’s just enough to take the sweet tooth away and not have the after effects of caffeine

This product is just Carob Powder as described with no added sweeteners, etc. I used it with milk to make a hot cocoa substitute beverage and without adding anything other than the powder and milk it was very good and for my taste did not need additional sweetner. It is not going to dissolve like Nesquick but it did pretty well overall and using a whisk as they advise does help. I will definitely order it again

I thought I would dislike it, but it's surprisingly good. I am trying to cut back on coffee, been replacing that with chicory, which I'm not crazy about. I was adding cocoa to it, but that also has caffeine. So I tried the Carob Powder to replace the cocoa. It works really well! Tastes better than the cocoa. Very happy with the purchase, will order it again.
