About Our Barley

  • Roasted barley is a popular caffeine-free coffee alternative in Italy where it’s known as “Caffé d’orzo.” Italians brew it dark and rich like espresso, whereas in Japan it is enjoyed as a chilled brewed tea that is cleansing for the body.
    Our barley is organically grown in Europe and roasted by a family-owned business that has been roasting barley for seven generations.

Roasted barley tastes good, is less bitter than coffee, and foams beautifully when whisked. It brews in the coffee pot and provides a lovely, hot flavorful beverage so I highly recommend!

I'm very happy with the flavor of this roasted barley as an alternative to coffee. I needed to go off coffee and found Chicory to be a bit harsh. This barley has a far more delicate taste that I find more enjoyable.

It’s dark like espresso if you make it strong. It looks, feels and almost smells like coffee. It has a coffee like flavor but I won’t say it tastes just like coffee. But it’s satisfying in a similar way.
